Beyonce Portrait Created on an iPad (Vid)

Artists are taking to the iPad like ducks to water.

…to do it the other way way. While it’s interesting to watch a duck successfully navigate a sheet of ice, at the end of the day they’ll do much better back in the water. The iPad is great for watching Netflix on the porch, nice for surfing the web on the bus, handy for reading while waiting in line at the DMV, and not bad for taking notes in a meeting with a client. But when I want to draw an image, I’d much rather use Photoshop on an iMac with a Wacom tablet, Manga Studio on a TabletPC, or a 2H and a 2B on a sheet of bristol.Reply reportimfromthepast said 9:07AM on 7-06-2010As an artist myself with an iPad, I respectfully disagree. The medium is the medium. If you want to make a pencil sketch, use a pencil and paper. If you want to make an oil painting, get an easel, a canvas, some brushes and paint. If you want to produce some digital art use a computer. If you are sitting on the couch and you don’t feel like using a mouse, I would submit the iPad is ideal. The thing about making digital art is there is a…

Biblical fragments reunited after centuries

Two parts of an ancient biblical manuscript, separated across centuries and continents, are going on display together for the first time at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The 1,300-year-old fragments, existed separately and with their relationship unknown.

…”The enemy said: ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil. My lust shall be satisfied upon them, I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them,’” reads the song, which appears in the Book of Exodus. “Thou didst blow thy wind, the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.”An exhibit at Israel’s national museum dedicated to the Song of the Sea is now bringing together the two long-separated pieces. From North Carolina … and LondonOne page of the song, known as the Ashkar manuscript, was previously housed in a rare books library at Duke University in North Carolina and was first displayed at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem in 2007.That’s when a photograph of the manuscript in a local newspaper caught the eye of two Israeli paleographers, Mordechay Mishor and Edna Engel, who noticed it resembled a different page of Hebrew writing known as the London manuscript, presently part of the private collection of Stephan Loewentheil of New York.”The uniformity of the letters, the…

Why I Love and Hate Nintendo

Here is an expose into my schizophrenic relationship with Nintendo, and why I love and hate them at the same time.

…As a progressive in all forms of belief (ranging from politics to sports,) innovation is what keeps me coming back to the gaming industry. Yesterday is ancient history, and I want tomorrow’s mystery to be answered today. I want to know what the games of the future will be like, and how they will further immerse me into the world of video games. The new and risky ventures in this industry are what get me excited. I don’t give a fuck what four digit number your HDTV resolution is or how much more RAM the next generation of consoles will have compared to this one. I want to be able to be inundated by change and become a part of it. When the previous norm has been proven successful, changing paths is not something most gaming companies undertake….

Affair-Proof Your Relationship

Affair-Proof Your Relationship

…Many women believe men have an affair because of the other woman’s looks or because she feels that he no longer finds her attractive because she’s gained weight or gotten older.
However, what men want more than a pretty face or nice body is to be ADMIRED by their partner.
The truth is most men that have affairs are CRAVING admiration.
At home, many men feel nagged and unappreciated.
At the office, they are the ‘hero’.
If a man doesn’t feel admired at home, he becomes easier prey for any woman that makes him feel respected and admired.
When a woman makes her man feel admired she cloaks him in ‘affair-proof’ armor because most men would do anything not to lose her admiration.
This short video has some great tips on how to get your man to treat you right while making him feel like your hero using the Conscious Retraining Method in the Magic of Making Up…

A Lopsided Love Triangle: How Cats See Your Relationship

Cats: Winning the evolutionary race by convincing the people in the lead to carry them. Cats are MUCH smarter than people think.

…Cats have perfected a technique the envy of married men worldwide - convincing the other person to provide both sides of the interaction all by themselves. Millions of people attribute all manner of emotions, preferences and personality quirks to what are basically small piles of digestive tract in a mammal-hair bag….

Pedophile Uses World of WarCraft to Meet Girls

The 31-year-old Anthony Taylor formed a relationship with the less-than-half-his-age girl, which eventually led to sexual messages and phone calls. The girl’s father found out about the relationship and threatened to kill Anthony, so Anthony did what any self-respecting pedophile would do — he sent her a plane ticket and some money to. .

…I was not “type casting an entire system”. For example, if you were to hear that a judge in Utah let a drunk driver off with a warning after he killed somebody, you could say, “well, I guess Utah is a nice place for drunk drivers” because they were so lenient. It’s obviously not totally fair to do chastise all of Utah, but people aren’t generally nice when they berate you. Yes, I was busting the collective balls of Australia for being as lenient as they were with the guy, but I don’t think I worded it in a way that implied I think all Australians are pedophiles.I also understand that laws are different around the world and I don’t expect everyone to do things the way we do. Far from it, actually. I don’t want to get into politics or make this article any more serious than some people have already taken it, but suffice it to say that I don’t agree with the way America does things either. If you want to bust the United Balls of America, go ahead. I don’t take offense to things that are not directed personally…

Ripe Fruit May Inspire Mosquito Repellents

Fruit flies actually have a love-hate relationship with the smell of fruit. And a new insight into the chemistry of that attraction and repulsion could lead to novel repellents for other insects, researchers say.

…To study the contradiction, Ray and Turner turned to the sensory detectors on the insects’ antennae. “Each antenna is shaped like a strawberry, with hundreds of tiny hairs on it,” Ray says. Inserting minute electrodes into pores on some of the hairs let the researchers check for activity in a neuron bearing the the specialized receptor known to detect CO2. The researchers monitored that activity while releasing both fruit odors and CO2. Two of the fruit odors strongly reduced the neuron’s reaction to CO2.
Those two inhibitor molecules, 1-hexanol and 2,3-butanedione, were quite a surprise, Ray says. “They do not look anything like CO2.”
Yet he and Turner note that earlier studies show that as bananas ripen, concentrations of 1-hexanol increase by 777 percent and 2,3-butanedione by 4,900 percent.
To see whether the inhibitors indeed act on the receptor, “we took the awesome power of fly genetics,” Ray says, and put the receptor protein in a neuron that normally has nothing to do with CO2 detection. Isolated…

MySpace Buys iLike Music Sharing Service

MySpace will keep the start-up operating as a separate company, at least for now, but the deal raises questions about iLike’s future relationship with Facebook, MySpace’s archrival.

…re excited to extend that experience to other areas of entertainment that MySpace has assets in, Mr. Van Natta said on a conference call with reporters.
Mr. Van Natta declined to discuss financial terms of the deal, although there has been speculation that the price tag was around $20 million. But he did say that iLike, which is based in Seattle, would remain autonomous. Ali Partovi, the chief executive, and Hadi Partovi, the president, will retain their roles.
We want to make sure we don’t disrupt any of the good things iLike is doing, Mr. Van Natta said. However, he said that over time, the goal was to find ways which we can leverage that talent more broadly across MySpace.
Since iLike was founded two years ago, the service has swelled to more than 50 million users, many of which are on Facebook, a direct competitor to MySpace. It wasn’t clear how the acquisition would affect iLike’s relationship with Facebook, if at all. Mr. Van Natta said that the collaboration would result in making iLike an even…

Study: Facial Scars Make Men More Attractive to Women

A facial scar, preferably one that looks like it was inflicted in anger rather than the aftermath of chickenpox or acne, increases men’s attractiveness to a woman for a short-term relationship, according to researchers.
